Country Manager

A Country Manager is the individual responsible for overseeing a company's operations, strategy, and performance within a specific country, acting as the primary local leader and point of contact between the company's headquarters and its in-country teams, partners, and stakeholders. This role typically covers responsibilities spanning hiring, compliance oversight, local business development, and day-to-day operational decision-making. For companies expanding internationally, a Country Manager plays a critical role in navigating local market dynamics, cultural nuances, and regulatory requirements that headquarters staff may not fully understand. This person often works closely with global mobility, HR, and legal teams to ensure that the company's local operations remain compliant with employment law, tax obligations, and any industry-specific regulations. When a company is entering a new market through an Employer of Record rather than establishing its own legal entity, a Country Manager may still be hired through the EOR to lead local strategy and operations, even though the formal employment relationship runs through the EOR. This allows the company to have dedicated in-country leadership without the delay and cost of setting up its own subsidiary first.
