Global In-House Center

A Global In-House Center, often abbreviated as GIC, is an offshore unit that is fully owned and operated by a parent company to deliver internal services such as engineering, financial analysis, customer support, or research, rather than relying on external outsourcing vendors. This model gives the parent company complete control over hiring, processes, quality standards, and intellectual property, since the team operates as a genuine extension of the company rather than a separate service provider's client engagement. Companies build Global In-House Centers to access specialized or lower-cost talent pools in countries known for strong skills in specific fields, while maintaining the same level of oversight and integration they would have with a domestic team. This is particularly valuable for functions that are closely tied to core business operations or sensitive company information, where outsourcing to an external vendor might introduce unwanted risk. Establishing a Global In-House Center typically requires setting up a legal entity in the target country, which can be a lengthy and resource-intensive process. Some companies choose to begin operating their GIC through an Employer of Record instead, allowing them to hire staff and start operations immediately while deciding whether to invest in a fully owned entity later.
