Global Capability Center

A Global Capability Center, or GCC, is a company-owned offshore hub that goes beyond simple cost arbitrage to become a strategic extension of the parent organization, often delivering core technology development, data analytics, research, or innovation work rather than purely transactional support. GCCs have grown significantly in countries like India, where companies build large, integrated teams that operate as genuine centers of capability rather than isolated cost centers. The distinction between a GCC and earlier offshore models like a basic shared services center or call center lies in the depth and strategic importance of the work performed. A GCC often houses senior technical talent, product ownership, and functions that are directly tied to the company's core competitive advantage, rather than being limited to routine back-office processing. Companies building a GCC face a choice between establishing their own wholly owned subsidiary, which offers maximum control but requires significant upfront investment and lengthy setup, or partnering with an Employer of Record to begin hiring and operating immediately while evaluating whether a full entity is ultimately worth building. Many companies start with an EOR-supported model and transition to a fully owned entity once the GCC reaches sufficient scale.
