Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS)
Employee Net Promoter Score, commonly abbreviated as eNPS, is a metric companies use to measure employee loyalty and overall satisfaction by asking a simple core question: how likely are employees to recommend their workplace to a friend or acquaintance as a good place to work. This metric is adapted from the customer-focused Net Promoter Score widely used in business to gauge customer loyalty. Employees typically respond to the core eNPS question on a numerical scale, and their responses are categorized into promoters, who are highly likely to recommend the company, passives, who are neutral, and detractors, who are unlikely to recommend it. The eNPS score is then calculated by subtracting the percentage of detractors from the percentage of promoters, resulting in a single number that companies can track over time. Because eNPS is a simple, quick metric to collect, many companies use it as a regular pulse check on overall employee sentiment, often supplementing it with additional open-ended questions to understand the reasons behind the score. Tracking eNPS trends over time can help organizations identify emerging engagement issues before they lead to increased turnover or more serious morale problems.
